Laurie Barna is a native northern Californian who grew up enjoying drawing as a hobby. She began painting in watercolor in 1999, and has studied with a number of well-known watercolor artists and art instructors.

Since 2006, the Liberty Series has become her passion. This series has had wide viewer appeal in five solo exhibitions, with individual paintings having won national and local awards and being featured on the Artist Registries for both the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, and the U.S. State Department's Art in Embassies websites.

Her latest endeavor is her self-published book, The Liberty Series: for the Love of Liberty.
