Pam Farris
I started creating mosaics in 2014. I was intrigued that a medium usually used in a floor or a backsplash could be reimagined as a piece of artwork hung on the wall.
My mosaics are created with glass, ceramics and hand cut stones, and fall into two categories: conceptual and historical. My historical Roman and Byzantine mosaics are based on research from my travels, while my conceptual mosaics reflect ideas and events that give me pause.
As a middle school art teacher, I find that I need to censor my work while in the classroom. So I joined the Next Gallery in 2015 to be able to take my art out of the classroom and into public places. I have concrete themes for my solo shows that encourage the audience to take a closer look.
In addition to the Next Gallery, I am also a member of Colorado Mosaic Artists, 40 West Gallery and the Society for Creative Anachronism .
