Richard Chamberlain
“I can’t remember when I wasn’t an artist. I guess my career began as a toddler when I broke into my grandmother’s oils and ‘retouched’ a canvas she was working on, sparking a passion that has continued throughout my formal education and beyond.”
You’re likely to run into Rich Chamberlain’s work in galleries throughout the Denver metro region. He pursues several lines of work, including figure drawing, photography, sculptural construction/assemblage, and acrylic painting. His abstract and non-representational work reflects a particular interest in color and form, currently exploring an approach he calls “contemplative minimalism.” Of the latter he says, “Reduced to irreducibility, a visual image begins to approach a representation of pure spirit, and the celebration of the play of light in color as its own form becomes a contemplative exercise for both artist and viewer in a joint act of creation. Much of that process for me is simply to sit and look; I invite you to do the same.” He works out of studio 9 at 40 West Studios in Lakewood and is an active member of Next Gallery, as well as the 40 West Gallery and Arts District, where he shows frequently.
