Susan McNeff Skokan

Susan McNeff Skokan is a multi-media artist who thrives on the convergence of various creative forms, blending photography, wool felting, installation and more. Her art is a visceral response to the world, a direct expression of emotions and an exploration of the profound connections between humanity, nature and spirit.

In Susan’s watercolor painting process spontaneity reigns. Many creations are a dynamic experience, an unscripted dialogue with the moment, where she delves into the complexities of existence, weaving and unweaving threads of meaning. They are a call to wake up, to look deeply. Her work indicates the essence of life itself. Viewers can participate intellectually, visually and even sometimes by dissolving photographs in the work.

Inspired by Karen Lynn Bennet’s wool installation, Ellen Jewett’s intricate work as well as Dave McKean and Jerry Uelsmann’s superimpositions, Susan’s pieces resonate with a diverse range of feelings and offer a mirror to society’s trends and practices. Her work is a vehicle for transformation, a snapshot of a moment, a juxtaposition of ideas. It invites viewers to bring their own interpretations or confront new perspectives, delving into the intricate web of the human condition.

Susan’s artistic journey is a proclamation of her belief in connection, from the simple to the complex, from the mundane to the sublime. Her creations stand as a testament to the boundless wonder and otherworldly beauty that permeate our existence.

With a portfolio spanning hundreds of materials and textures, Susan’s art takes viewers on a voyage- exploring life, offering her heart. Raw or polished, it is an invitation to feel and hopefully to heal, ultimately to embrace the sacred interconnectedness of all existence, laughing at the ridiculousness along the way.

Susan is also a Waldorf certified early childhood educator, aquatic bodyworker and mother of two sons. Susan has shown work with 40West Gallery and also ran Greenwave Gallery in Denver from July 2020-December 2020.
